BEIJING -- Chongqing party chief Bo Xilai urged on Friday that the southwestern municipality be built into a safe and health city so as to satisfy its 30 million people.
While participating in a panel deliberation of the government work report by the Chongqing delegation at the ongoing parliamentary session, Bo said the crackdown on gangdom in Chongqing was to create a favorable environment for the people and local business.
"On this issue, shall we pretend to be deaf or shall we be responsible for the people? We chose the latter," said Bo, secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
"We can not make it 100 percent correct, but we tried our efforts 100 percent," Bo told a crowd of reporters after the panel discussion.
He said that Chongqing is making every effort to create a sound environment for the upcoming 18th National Congress of the CPC latter this year.
