BEIJING -- The change of Chinese leadership for a new term of five years was formally initiated in the national legislature, with a candidate list submitted by the presidium of the first session of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) Tuesday afternoon.
Presided over by Zheng Dejiang, the presidium's executive chairman, the meeting made a decision that the list of candidates to the 12th NPC Stand Committee chairman, vice chairpersons, secretary-general and members, as well as of president and vice president of the People's Republic of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission of the PRC, will be handed by the Presidium to NPC delegations for discussion and consultation.
Entrusted by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made explanations to the presidium on the candidates for the state leadership positions.
