The Shanghai agricultural products exposition will see the participation of the first delegation fromTaiwan's agricultural sector which plans to extend business to the mainland, a city agricultural official said Thursday.
The exposition, which is influential on the Chinese mainland, is a major event for people to prepare their big dishes for the coming Spring Festival, the Chinese lunar New Year, said Yan Shengxiong, deputy director of the municipal agricultural committee.
More than 500 enterprises from all over China are expected to display over 3,000 varieties of quality agricultural products at the exposition, slated for Jan. 9-12.
The Shanghai-centered Yangtze Delta Economic Zone is an area where a large number of Taiwanese business people live and work, said Wu Ji, chairman of the Taiwan Nantou Agricultural Cooperation Committee. He predicted that there would be a big demand for agricultural products with Taiwanese features in the area.
"We have come to introduce Taiwanese agricultural products to the people of Shanghai. At the same time, we will take agricultural products which are grown in abundance on the mainland back to Taiwan," Wu said.
