Five companies from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan were placed in the top 10 fast-growing technology firms in terms of revenue growth over the past three years in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a ranking published yesterday by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
"Despite a challenging year, companies from the mainland and Hong Kong have shown high levels of resilience and innovation," said Alfred Tang, an auditor partner of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, one of the world's leading accounting firms.
The ranking listed 250 leading technology firms in the region based on the percentage in revenue growth over a period of three years.
Among them, 29 were from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, while the company didn't specify the Taiwan firms' overall ranking.
This year's No 1 spot went to Chinese Gamer International Corp, a Taiwan-based online game research and development firm which is a beneficiary from the explosive growth in the online gaming market.
A major factor contributing to 3-year-old Chinese Gamer's success was the launch of its first online game, Sango Online.
In second spot is Shanghai-based Shanda Networking Co Ltd which was formed by Chen Tianqiao in 1999. It now has more than 170 million registered users and has developed more than 10 online gaming products.
TCL Mobile Communications Co Ltd, a Chinese handset manufacturer, took the fourth spot, down from No 1 last year. The company, which makes TCL-branded handsets, has a 12.15 percent of the mobile phone market in China currently, next to Motorola and Nokia.
The 250 firms on this year's list had an average revenue growth of 412 percent, up from 385 percent in last year's ranking.
It is the second year that Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu has conducted the ranking.
