Taiwan has boosted its investment in South China's Guangdong Province, Lu Ruihua, governor of the province, has said.

Statistics show Guangdong houses 14,416 Taiwan-funded companiesand had over 12 billion US dollars of Taiwanese investments by theend of March this year.

In a recent interview with Xinhua, the governor said Taiwan hadbecome the province's second largest investment source outside Guangdong. Taiwanese were investing for longer terms and focusing more on technology-intensive projects.

A dozen of Taiwan's top 100 companies have invested in Guangdong and formed numerous distinct trading chains and bases.

Lu said Guangdong had become increasingly attractive since its infrastructure and investment environment were optimized. Over 250companies listed in the world's top 500 had invested in the province.

Lu said economies of Guangdong and Taiwan were mutually complementary and beneficial. Guangdong would make improvements toattract more Taiwanese IT companies and broaden cooperation in theservice industry. ( 2002-08-14)
