According to the Xuzhou Branch of Yangtse Evening on 16, Dr. Li Zhengdao, director of Marrow Match Center of Tzu Chi Foundation, Chinese-American and world-renowned immune gene scholar signed cooperating agreement with Affiliated Hospital to Xuzhou Medical College on behalf of Tzu Chi Immune Gene Lab in Xuzhou on July 15. Both parties discussed on matters of establishing bone marrow bank in Xuzhou. Furthermore, Li Zhengdao was employed as "honorary "professor of Xuzhou Medical College" with pleasure.
As one of initiators of National Marrow Donor Program, Li Zhengdao is a medical expert and philanthropist, who enjoys good fames among Chinese all over the world. Tzu Chi Marrow Match Center of Tzu Chi Hospital also becomes the world’s largest Chinese marrow bank for which Dr. Li Zhengdao works. Tzu Chi Marrow Match Center has successfully matched bond marrow for over 100 patients of leukemia in China Mainland since Yang Xiuxia, a woman aged 54 in Taiwan, transplanted bone marrow for Liu Jinquan, a 17-year-old boy in Anhwei in April 1997. In particular, there are about 50 patients who have had a transplantation operation. As introduced by Dr. Li, our patients of leukemia must seek for their own ancestors and match appropriate bone marrow among those with the same ancestor. The reason why bone marrow can be easily matched for patients in China Mainland is that we have the same ancestor and are all Chinese.
