Jiangsu New Year Symposium for Taiwan Investors was held in Nanjing on January 16. More than 40 Taiwanese including the chairmen and entrepreneurs from a number of Taiwan business associations and Taiwan businesses in Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, Nantong, Taizhou, Kunshan and other cities attended the symposium. Fang Zhizhuo, deputy director of the Standing Committee of Jiangsu People's Congress (JPC), Wang Rongbing, deputy governor of Jiangsu, Duan Xushen, deputy director of Jiangsu People's Political Consultative Conference (JPPCC), and some officials from provincial Office of Taiwan Affairs, provincial Planning Commission, provincial Economic and Trade Commission, provincial Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, provinvial Local Taxation Bureau and Nanjing Customs were also present. In 2002, Jiangsu newly introduced 1,223 Taiwan investment projects with contractual capital of USD 6.57 billion, and actually utilized Taiwan capital USD 3 billion, both representing a rise of above 30 per cent. Up to now, Jiangsu has approved over 11,000 Taiwan investment projects totally, and boasted USD 29.7 billion in the amount of contractual Taiwan capital.
At the symposium, Taiwan entrepreneurs and chairmen put forward a lot of constructive suggestions and opinions, and also expressed their commend and confidence in the favorable investment environment in Jiangsu. The provincial leaders and the principals of relevant departments carefully listened to the suggestions, and gave answers and explanations to some questions.
Deputy Governor Wang Rongbing, on behalf of Jiangsu Provincial Government, sent New Year wishes and blessing to the Taiwan entrepreneurs and chairmen present at the symposium, all Taiwan investors who have placed investment in Jiangsu, and all people who have offered great support for Jiangsu's trade and economic cooperation. As expressed by Wang Rongbing, Jiangsu will continue to execute the protection act for Taiwan investors and relevant regulations, and try to her best to defend the legal interests of Taiwan investors all the time.
