</style> <p>BEIJING -- The mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) will elect new council members on Friday in Beijing, a Taiwan affairs spokeswoman for the mainland said Wednesday.</p> <p>The ARATS will hold the third council meeting to review the work carried out by the second council since June 2008, plot out future tasks and elect new council members, said Fan Liqing, a spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, at a regular press conference.</p> <p>The association will also commemorate the 20th anniversary of the historic "Wang-Koo meeting" during the conference, which will be attended by leaders of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, she said.</p> <p>In April 1993, ARATS President Wang Daohan and the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) Chairman Koo Chen-fu held the "Wang-Koo meeting" in Singapore. It was the first public meeting between leaders of the two organizations.</p> |
