China is deeply concerned about reports that US president Bill Clinton will approve large-scale sales of advanced weapons to Taiwan to sway the American general election this year, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said yesterday.
The Chinese Government and people have always opposed the US government's sale of advanced weapons to Taiwan, spokesman Zhu Bangzao said at a regular press conference.
Regarding treatment of Taiwan, Zhu said, the US Government is obliged to honour the Joint Communique issued by the two governments in 1982.
To honour the agreement, he stressed, the US Government should send no advanced weaponry to Taiwan. |
