LONDON -- The women's lucky loser matches of the London Olympic beach volleyball have been confirmed following the completion of pool play at Horse Guards Parade on Thursday.
Both lucky loser matches will take place at local time 22:00 following the last two men's pool play games, with Britain's Shauna Mullin/Zara Dampney taking on Austria's Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger sisters on center court.
Hana Klapalova/Lenka Hajeckove of the Czech Republic will play the Netherlands' Madelein Meppelink/Sophie van Gestel on court one.
The men's lucky lost matches will take place at 23:00, but the participating teams will be decided after the men's pool matches finish late Thursday.
The 24 teams per gender in London Olympics are split into six pools. The top two teams from each pool advance to the knockout stage, along with the two best third-placed teams. The remaining four third-place teams play two playoff matches, which are called lucky loser matches, to determine which pairs will fill the final two places in the next stage.
