LONDON -- Germany claimed gold in the women's team sprint cycling event in the London Olympics on Thursday after China were relegated.
Chinese pair Gong Jinjie and Guo Shuang set two world records on the way to the final where they rode to a comfortable victory, but the result was overturned for an illegal change.
German pair Kristina Vogel and Miriam Welte, who had only made it to the final after host nation Great Britain was relegated in the qualifying round for the same reason, were awarded the race win in 32.798 seconds.
Three-time world champions Kaarle McCulloch and Anna Meares of Australia beat Ukraine pair Lyubov Shulika and Olena Tsyos for the bronze.
