BEIJING -- A reception was held on Sunday in Beijing to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the 1911 Revolution, which terminated 2,000 years of imperial rule in China.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, attended the reception.

Wang Gang, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said the 1911 Revolution is a milestone event in modern Chinese history.

The 1911 Revolution, or Xinhai Revolution, which began on Oct. 10, 1911 and led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, founder of the Kuomintang, ended one of the world's longest periods of autocratic rule by toppling the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and establishing a republican government. Imperial rule in China began in B.C. 221 under Emperor Qinshihuang.

The CPC is the staunchest supporter, closest cooperator and most loyal inheritor of the revolutionary cause of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Wang said in a speech delivered during the reception.

The CPC has united with and led the people in waging a long and arduous struggle, and has made or is making it come true the wishes of the revolutionary martyrs of the 1911 Revolution, he said.

The Chinese nation's great rejuvenation has unfolded and offers an unprecedented, bright future, he said.
