The National State Council has approved Fuzhou, Fujian province to expand the Taiwan Entrepreneurs Investment Zone by 11.46 square kilometers, according to the general office of the Fuzhou municipal government.

In May 1989, the National State Council authorized the construction of an investment zone for Taiwan businesses in Mawei, Fuzhou. With an area of 1.8 square kilometers, the Mawei zone is one of the first two investment zones for Taiwan companies in the Chinese mainland. It accommodates Taiwan companies from the electronic information, photo-voltaic, software, comics and animation, shipbuilding, modern equipment manufacturing and auto electronics industries. It has developed into a major gathering place of Taiwan entrepreneurs.

After the expansion, the Taiwan Entrepreneurs Investment Zone in Fuzhou will be extended from Mawei to the north and south banks of Luoyuan Bay, mainly covering the Lianjiang Daguanban quarter and Luoyuan Songshan quarter. The expanded zone will rely on the Luoyuan Bay port to develop the port industrial cluster for metallurgy and electric power industries.

Meanwhile, Fuzhou plans to expand the Fuqing Jiangyin industrial zone, Yuanhong investment zone, Changle Binhai industrial zone and apply to enjoy the same preferential policies as what is going on in Pingtan.
