Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi says "One Country, Two Systems" and "Macao People Governing Macao" policies have been well implemented in the Special Administrative Region since it returned to the motherland in 1999.
Addressing the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, Wu Yi says the region has kept its original social and economic systems and the central government has not interfered in the local affairs.
She notes local residents now enjoy equal opportunities for competition as well as all the rights and freedom ensured by law.
Wu Yi adds practice proves that Macao people can govern the region with success.
