SHANGHAI, April 28 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland's Taiwan affairs chief Wang Yi met Wednesday with Kuomintang Honorary Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung who came here to attend the upcoming Shanghai World Expo.
"The Expo is a great event for all Chinese people, and Taiwan compatriots are welcome to attend the event," said Wang, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.
More than 100 Taiwan dignitaries had been invited by the Expo organizing committee to attend the Expo.
"The broad participation of Taiwan's various circles in the Expo is an achievement of the all-round improvement in cross-Strait relations, and a symbol of peaceful development in the relations," Wang said.
"The Expo will become an important platform for the people across the Strait to enhance exchanges," he said.
Wu said Taiwan's participation in the World Expo demonstrates the fruit of the improvement in cross-Strait relations.
"I believe the Shanghai World Expo will be a great success, just like the Beijing Olympic Games," he said.
Wu, arriving in Shanghai with his wife Wednesday, was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the Expo.
