BRUSSELS, May 5 (Xinhua) -- There are many views on what has been the key to China's rapid development but, for Belgium's Manager of the Year Bert De Graeve, it is its dynamism in a wide range of areas.
China was dynamic in decision making and implementation, said De Graeve, chief executive officer (CEO) of Bekaert, a Belgium-based global company in the steel sector.
"In China, everyone works hard to achieve the common goal of development," De Graeve said in an interview with Xinhua. "There are mistakes, but these mistakes can be quickly corrected."
De Graeve went to China for the first time in 1990 and managed the Shanghai-Bell joint venture for three years. After joining Bekaert in 2002, De Graeve has stepped up investment in China, where Bekaert currently has 17 factories with 8,500 employees.
De Graeve said that Bekaert witnessed the "Chinese miracle." From 1997 to 2008, as China's economy grew by an average of 8.87 percent annually,Bekaert's sales in China recorded an average increase of 39.83 percent each year.
China's industrialization and infrastructure modernization offered great opportunities to Bekaert, said De Graeve. To facilitate its development in Asia, the company opened a research and development center in April in China's eastern Jiangsu Province, employing 300 researchers and laboratory technicians.
