Zhou said with the current global economic downturn organizers worked hard to keep this years’ exhibition to the same scale of those of previous years.

“I am confident that the eMEX 2009 will be a success,” said Zhou at a press conference in Beijing Thursday.

“We have got innovation this year: the two highlights of the expo.”

Solar photovoltaic industry and 3G technology, which will be promoted by China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, will be the two highlights of this year’s eMEX.

“We [also] have favorable policies for exhibitors, like those who have attended three eMEX can have free booth and those who are the first comer can have 50% discount of the booth fee,” said Zhou.

The annual fair, which started in 2002, will be held at the Suzhou International Expo Center, Jiangsu province, from October 22 to 25.

Jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Information Technology, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office and Jiangsu provincial government, the eMEX will feature world’s latest technology and products.

The exhibition will have 1600 stands and is expected to attract about 630 electronic manufacturers and 80,000 IT professionals.

Zhou said although Taiwanese companies usually account for the majority of the electronic manufacturers taking part in eMEX every year, in recent two years a number of new companies, particularly from Chinese mainland, South Korea and Japan started to join in.

Zhou said the project has full support from the government and is gaining strong media interest.
