| cross-Straits economic cooperation pact may start negotiations later this year |

The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office yesterday said the mainland and Taiwan may start negotiations on signing a cross-Straits economic cooperation pact later this year. Fan Liqing, spokeswoman of the office, said the two sides were making preparations for possible talks on the pact and if it should be included into the next Chen-Chiang meeting, the highest level semi-official cross-Straits meeting, scheduled for the second half of this year. |
