Mainland TV makers may buy $4.4 billion of components from Taiwan this year, double the original plan, Bloomberg quoted Bai Weimin, secretary-general of the China Video Industry Association, as saying.
"China's domestic demand has risen more than we had expected, so we're doubling our budget," Bai said at a press conference in Taipei yesterday.
The TV makers will purchase flat-panel displays and other components, she said.
The association is part of a delegation led by Li Shuilin, president of the Association for Trade and Economic Exchange Across the Taiwan Straits, which is on a purchasing trip to Taiwan.
The mainland said in December it planned to purchase $2.2 billion of flat-panel displays from the island this year.
Also yesterday, Justin Huang, secretary-general of Taiwan Textile Federation, said the textile industry of Taiwan will receive $40 million in orders from mainland procurers. |
