Indonesia is striving for new liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply contracts from China besides the existing contract to the Chinese province Fujian, said an official in Jakarta Thursday.
"China still has huge (LNG) market. We must win new contracts out of Fujian. We will not only use business-to-business approach but also government-to-government approach because we have close relationship with China," Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro was quoted as saying by Detikcom online news service.
The minister did not elaborate on which Chinese province is being targeted by Indonesia for LNG supply contracts.
"Marketing efforts are being made. But the point is, the chance in China is good and still promising," he said.
China and Indonesia signed a US$8.5 billion LNG supply contract to Fujian in September 2002, under which Indonesia will supply 2.6 million tons of LNG per annum for a 25-year term starting from 2007. |
