US looking forward to Sino-US trade meeting

A senior US official said Tuesday that the US government is looking foreword to Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi's visit to Washington and he was optimistic that some trade issues between the two countries can be resolved through dialogue.
Grant Aldonas, under secretary of the US Commerce Department, who is scheduled to visit China on Thursday, made it clear that he was misquoted last week when reports said the Sino-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) meeting scheduled for next month in Washington was canceled.
The report of the cancellation "is completely wrong," he said.
"We are looking forward to the visit of Wu Yi" to Washington and the US government is much focused on the positive results of the visit, Aldonas said.
Wu is scheduled to visit Washington in April to attend the JCCT meeting.
The trade between the United States and China is growing dramatically and both sides are benefiting enormously from it, he said, acknowledging at the same time that there are certain issues unsettled between the two countries.
"We are really hopeful the (JCCT) meeting in April will really produce concrete result," he said.
That will demonstrate to the people both in the United States and in China that Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to the United States last year has set the right tone for the trade relations between the two sides, he said.
The US government is hopeful that consultation between the two sides "would lead to a resolution of the issue," he added.
