As the host city of the 2008 Olympic Games, Beijing is trying to persuade investors to go for their share of the Olympic gold. The municipal government organized marketing promotion campaigns on Monday to spark the city's "Olympic Economy."
Diplomats from more than 40 countries and business people from dozens of international companies heard the news. The Beijing municipal government announced a two-day promotion conference on Olympic-related projects in mid-April. Officials are calling the event a trigger for the start of marketing for the city's Olympic economy. And they're painting a promising picture of the business opportunities.
Liu Zhi, deputy director of Beijing Municipal Development & Reform Comm., said, "There will be over 370 projects on offer this time, worth about 100 billion yuan. They will cover areas including infrastructure, environmental protection, hi-tech, manufacturing industries and tourism."
Many countries and companies have shown great interest in the potential profits brought by the 2008 Games.
Over the next four years, Beijing's total investment in Olympic-related projects is expected to reach 180 billion US dollars. The marketing strategy is bringing in private and foreign investors.
Because the government wants the 2008 Games to be green, there will be a real emphasis on the environment. The Olympic economy is gathering momentum and is expected to pick up rapidly in the next couple of years. |
