People from all walks of life in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Monday voicedtheir support for the making of China's Anti-Secession Law.

The legislation procedures are conducive to maintaining China'ssovereignty and territorial integrity through legal means, said participants in a symposium marking the 10th anniversary of a speech delivered by former Chinese President Jiang Zemin on the Taiwan issue, which is known as the "eight-point proposal" on the Taiwan issue.

Ma Man Kei, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said that the bill that is under discussion at China's legislature signifies China's endeavor to put in a codified form the policies of striving for a peaceful solution to the Taiwan issue.

Ho Iat Seng, a member of the Standing Committee of the NationalPeople's Congress, said that the legislative procedures came at the right time, and marked an important step forward in China's reunification cause, which provides a more steadfast legal base for the central government in foiling any secession provocations.

Chui Sai Cheong, a member of the CPPCC National Committee, heldthat the procedures have given the central government more initiative in the policy-making concerning the Taiwan issue.

He Xiaowei, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, said that the Macao SAR's outstanding achievements in the political, social, economic and cultural spheres after its return to the motherland five yearsago have showed the success in its practice of the principle of "one country, two systems."

He said he hoped the region would make further contributions tofacilitating dialogs and exchanges across the Taiwan Straits by taking its geographic advantage.
