Why is the Chinese Government Opposed to Countries with which It has Diplomatic Relations Selling or Leasing Weapons to Taiwan?
   日期:2001-04-17 14:48        編輯: system        來源:

The Chinese Government has always been firmly opposed to any country selling or leasing any kind of weapons and military equipment to Taiwan, or providing Taiwan with technologies for weapons production. All countries that have established diplomatic relations with China should abide by the principles of mutual respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity and mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs and should not provide weapons to Taiwan in any manner under any pretext. To do otherwise is to violate the principles of international relations and interfere in China's internal affairs.

All countries, especially big countries shouldering responsibilities for world peace, should strictly comply with guiding principles worked out by the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council for restricting the proliferation of conventional weapons and contribute to the promotion and safeguarding of regional peace and stability.

At a time when relations across the Taiwan Straits are easing up, some countries have sold weapons to Taiwan to create tension between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits in violation of their commitment in international agreements and in disregard of the Chinese Government's repeated protests. This constitutes a serious threat to China's security and sets obstacles to China's peaceful reunification; it is also not conducive to peace and stability in Asia and the world as a whole. The Chinese Government and people are certainly opposed to it.
