The China Video Industry Association is doubling its procurement plans in Taiwan's flatscreen industry. The secretary-general of the mainland's industrial association, Bai Weimin, said that the mainland will add another 2.2 billion US dollars to purchase Taiwan's TV panels this year.
That brings the whole year procurement target to 4.4 billion US dollars. Bai Weimin said nine home appliance manufacturers from the mainland, including Haier, Hisens and Changhong, are discussing the procurement plans with Taiwan manufacturers. They hope the island's companies will increase productivity to ensure supplies.
The secretary-general also said the mainland expects to co-build a flatscreen television factory with Taiwan companies on the mainland. Bai Weimin expressed his hope that Taiwan authorities would relax relevant policies for its TV panel producers' investment on the mainland.
